ZORA OM3 Multimode Fiber Optic Pigtails FAQ
An OM3 multimode fiber optic pigtail is a component with one end terminated by a fiber connector (e.g., LC, SC, or MTP) and the other end as bare fiber (ready for fusion splicing or termination). It uses OM3-grade 50/125µm laser-optimized multimode fiber, designed for high-speed, short-distance data transmission in high-density networking environments.
Data Centers: Connecting 40G/100G Ethernet equipment to fiber distribution panels (ODFs).
Enterprise Networks: Splicing core switches to optical transceivers.
Security Systems: Terminating high-definition cameras to fiber networks.
Storage Area Networks (SANs): Extending high-speed storage device connectivity.
Fiber Type: 50/125µm laser-optimized multimode fiber (OM3).
Bandwidth: 2000 MHz·km at 850nm wavelength.
Typical Transmission Distances:
10G Ethernet: Up to 300 meters
40G/100G Ethernet (with MTP connectors): Up to 100 meters

Consider the following factors:
1.Connector Type: LC, SC, or MTP/MPO (for high-density applications).
2.Simplex/Duplex: Single-fiber (simplex) or dual-fiber (duplex) pigtails.
3.Jacket Material: LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) for data centers, PVC for general use.
4.Length: Typically 1-3 meters; allow sufficient length for splicing operations.
Splicing Protection: Use heat-shrink sleeves to protect spliced bare fiber.
Bend Radius: Maintain a minimum bend radius of ≥10x cable diameter (e.g., 30mm for 3mm cable).
Connector Cleaning: Clean connector end faces regularly with professional tools.
Contamination Prevention: Cover bare fiber ends with protective caps when not in use.
Yes, but ensure:
Use MTP/MPO multi-fiber connectors (e.g., MTP-12).
Transmission distances ≤100 meters for 40G/100G.
Pair with VCSEL-based SFP+/QSFP+ transceivers.
