ZORA OM2 Multimode Fiber Optic Pigtails FAQ
OM2 multimode fiber pigtail is a fiber optic assembly with fiber optic connector (e.g. SC, LC, ST, etc.) at one end and bare fiber (need to be fused or terminated) at the other end, which adopts OM2 standard multimode fiber (62.5/125μm) and is mainly used for terminal connection and cabling extension of optical communication system.
Used for connection between optical fiber distribution frame (ODF) and equipment.
To realize optical cable terminal fusion splicing in fiber to the home (FTTH) and local area network (LAN).
Fiber termination for short distance optical links such as security monitoring and data center.
Fiber Type: OM2 (62.5/125μm).
Bandwidth: 500MHz-km at 850nm wavelength.
Typical Transmission Distance: (The actual distance should be calculated by combining the performance of optical module and link loss)
1Gbps rate: up to 550 meters
10Gbps rate: up to 82 meters
Parameter | OM2 pigtail | OM1 pigtail | OM3 pigtail |

The following factors need to be considered:
Connector type: Select SC, LC or ST according to the device interface.
Fiber length: The length of pigtail is usually 1-3 meters, need to reserve space for fusion splicing operation.
Sheath material: PVC is optional for indoor, low smoke and non-halogen (LSZH) for fire prevention scenarios.
Simplex/Duplex: Single pigtail (simplex) or dual-core pigtail (duplex).
Fusion protection: The bare end needs to be fused and then protected with a set of heat shrink tubing to avoid fiber breakage.
Clean end face: The connector end face must be kept clean, otherwise it will lead to signal attenuation.
Bending radius: the installation of the bending radius ≥ 10 times the diameter of the cable to prevent fiber damage.
Avoid Pollution: The bare fiber not fused needs to be covered with a protective cap to avoid dust pollution.
OM2 pigtail fusion splicing technology is mature, but need to pay attention:
Professional fusion splicers (e.g. Sumitomo, Fujikura) and cutting knives should be used.
Fusion loss should be controlled within 0.3dB to ensure performance.
It is recommended to be operated by professional personnel to avoid fusion splicing failure.
