ZORA outdoor OS2 loose tube fiber optic cable FAQ

1.What is the key difference between outdoor and indoor OS2 loose tube cables?

Protective design: Outdoor cable adopts multi-layer protective structure (such as hose block + metal armor + high-density polyethylene sheath), moisture-proof, anti-ultraviolet, anti-rodent bite, adapt to harsh climate (-40℃ to +70℃).

Mechanical strength: Metal reinforced core (such as steel wire) provides higher tensile strength (short-term >3000N) to support overhead, direct burial or pipeline laying.

Flame retardant requirements: Outdoor types usually do not require OFNP flame retardant jackets, but must comply with IEC 60794-2 outdoor optical cable standards.

2.How is waterproofing and UV resistance achieved?

Waterproof structure: Thixotropic Jelly is filled with a loose casing, the outer sheath is made of UV-resistant HDPE (high density polyethylene), and the joints are laser welded to achieve IP67 protection level.

UV-resistant certification: The sheath passes UV aging test (IEC 60794-2-F1B standard), ensuring 20 years of outdoor service life.

3.What installation methods are supported?

Direct burial: The Corrugated Steel Tape protects the optical fiber from soil pressure and sharp objects. The burial depth is recommended to be ≥0.8 meters.

Overhead: Built-in aramid fiber reinforcement (Aramid Yarn) and bulletproof wire (FRP), wind load resistance and self-weight stretching.

Pipeline: Smooth outer skin reduces friction coefficient and is suitable for threading of pipes with φ40mm or above.

4.Does it meet long-distance transmission requirements?

Support 10Gbps up to 80km, 100Gbps (PAM4 modulation) up to 40km, compatible with CWDM/DWDM system.

5.How to select the fiber count?

Conventional configuration: 6 core to 144 core optional, loose casing adopts lamination structure (center reinforcement +6 pipe wound), each pipe contains 12/24 core.

High-density scenario: 96-core or higher configuration (customization required) is recommended, applicable to the metropolitan area network backbone or cross-building interconnection.
