ZORA Cat 5e Unshielded Patch Cords FAQ

1: What is ZORA Cat 5e Unshielded Patch Cords?

This is an unshielded Category 5e (CAT5e) patch cable designed for general network environments without electromagnetic interference (EMI). Its twisted-pair structure minimizes crosstalk, making it ideal for homes, offices, or low-interference settings.

2: What are the maximum speed and distance supported?

Under standard conditions, CAT5e unshielded cables support Gigabit Ethernet (1000Mbps) up to 100 meters. Shorter distances (e.g., <30m) may support higher bandwidths, depending on cable quality and device compatibility.

3: Does unshielded cable require special installation?

No grounding is needed. Ensure correct wiring (e.g., 568A/B) and limit untwisting of pairs to ≤12mm to maintain interference resistance.

4: Is it compatible with shielded devices?

Yes, but mixed use may reduce performance. For shielded ports, shielded cables are recommended for optimal results.

5: How does wire material affect performance?

ZORA uses oxygen-free copper (OFC) cores for low resistance and minimal signal loss, outperforming copper-clad aluminum. The flame-retardant PVC/PE jacket ensures durability.

6: How to verify cable compliance?

Use a cable tester to confirm all 8 conductors are connected. Professional tools (e.g., Fluke) can evaluate crosstalk and return loss. For handmade cables, check RJ45 connector quality to avoid poor contact.

7: Is unshielded cable necessary for home use?

Most homes do not require shielded cables. Unshielded CAT5e suffices for Gigabit networks. Consider shielded versions only near high EMI sources (e.g., motors).

8: Why does the link sometimes negotiate only 100Mbps?

Potential causes include incorrect wiring, faulty connectors, excessive length, or poor cable quality. Solutions: re-crimp connectors, shorten cables, or use higher-quality cables.
