Product Description
The ZORA OS2 Single Mode Single-Core Coupler SC-SC (also known as an adapter) is designed to provide a system of precise alignment of optical fibers for two paired fiber connectors. It is the precision alignment of the two end faces of an optical fiber to maximize the coupling of the light energy output from the transmitting fiber to the receiving fiber.
ZORA's fiber optic couplers allow transmission of a light source between the fibers with minimal insertion loss while maintaining excellent interactivity and insertion and removal life (times).

ZORA OS2 Single Mode Single-Core Coupler SC-SC FAQ
The ZORA OS2 single-mode single-core coupler is a crucial passive device in the field of fiber optic communication. It can couple the optical signal in one single-mode fiber (OS2 represents a specific type of single-mode fiber) to another single-mode fiber at a specific ratio. It plays an indispensable role in long-haul and high-speed fiber optic communication networks, such as metropolitan area networks, wide area networks, and high-speed interconnections in data centers. It helps to achieve the splitting and combining of optical signals, ensuring the stable operation of communication links.
Compared with multimode couplers, the ZORA OS2 single-mode single-core couplers are designed for single-mode fibers. They have a much thinner core, usually only 9μm. This enables them to support higher transmission rates and much longer transmission distances, up to dozens or even hundreds of kilometers, making them suitable for long-haul backbone networks. Multimode couplers are mainly used for short-distance communications, such as within campus networks. In addition, single-mode single-core couplers only handle optical signals in a single path, unlike multi-core couplers that can handle signal transmission of multiple-core fibers simultaneously.
First, prepare clean optical fibers, stripping tools, cutting tools, and compatible couplers. Carefully strip the outer sheath of the optical fiber using the stripping tool to expose the core, being careful not to damage the core. Use the cutting tool to cut the core flat, ensuring that the cut is perpendicular to the fiber axis. Then, insert the cut optical fiber into the corresponding port of the coupler, making sure it is inserted properly. Throughout the process, keep the operating environment clean to prevent dust and impurities from entering the coupler, which could affect optical signal transmission.
Excessive insertion loss:
This may be due to unclean fiber end faces or contamination of the coupler ports. The solution is to use special fiber cleaning tools, such as alcohol swabs and fiber cleaning rods, to clean the fiber end faces and coupler ports.
Substandard return loss:
The cause may be loose fiber connections or microcracks in the core. Recheck the fiber connections to ensure they are tight. If there is a problem with the core, re-cut or replace the fiber.
Under normal use and maintenance conditions, the service life of the ZORA OS2 single-mode single-core coupler can reach 10 - 15 years. However, if it is exposed to harsh working environments for a long time, such as high temperatures, high humidity, or strong electromagnetic interference, its service life may be shortened. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly inspect and maintain the coupler to ensure its good working condition.
