S/FTP’s braided outer screen collects interference more effectively across a wide frequency range and provides a reliable low-impedance path to ground. This becomes critical when running 10GBASE-T at full 100 m distance or supporting high-power PoE++ (up to 90–100 W) in dense bundles.
Choose Cat6A S/FTP when:
You need reliable 10 Gbps up to 100 meters
Cable density is high (alien crosstalk is a concern)
PoE++ devices (Wi-Fi 7 APs, PTZ cameras, digital signage) are present
Budget is a factor but shielding is still required
Choose Cat7 S/FTP when:
The environment has strong EMI (near motors, VFDs, medical equipment, power cables)

Both support Power over Ethernet standards (IEEE 802.3af/at/bt). The thicker conductors and better heat dissipation of quality S/FTP cables help manage temperature rise in large PoE bundles.
Assess the electromagnetic environment
Walk the site. Note proximity to power lines, elevators, industrial machinery, or fluorescent lighting. High-EMI areas almost always justify S/FTP.
Plan for density and bundling
In data centers or large risers, alien crosstalk can degrade 10G performance. Individual pair foils + overall braid give the best margin.
Ensure a complete shielded system
Shielded cable only works if the entire channel is shielded and properly grounded: shielded modules, patch panels, connectors, and a solid grounding path. Incomplete grounding can turn the shield into an antenna.
Consider installation practicality
S/FTP cables are stiffer. Allow for larger bend radii and use proper tools. Pre-terminated assemblies can reduce field termination risk.
Balance cost vs. risk
In clean office environments, F/FTP Cat6A is often sufficient and more economical. In industrial or high-density settings, the higher reliability of S/FTP usually pays for itself through fewer troubleshooting hours and longer system life.

Consistent pair geometry and high-quality foil/braid coverage
